Wednesday 25th October at 7pm, Phoenix Theatre, Ross-on-Wye – Ticket £6
Rosamund Young will talk about her brilliant bestseller, The Secret Life of Cows, which will be reissued in October.
The Secret Life of Cows demonstrates that cows can love, play games, bond and form strong life long friendships. They can sulk, hold grudges, have preferences and can be vain. Rosamund Young provides a fascinating insight into a secret world – secret because many modern farming practices leave no room for displays of natural behaviour.
The Secret Life of Cows is not only a study of family and herd relationships, communication, grieving and playing but makes for a highly readable and poignant study littered with anecdotes that will make the reader laugh, wonder and reflect. Certainly it will make you look at the domestic cow in a different light.
Talking about the reissue, Rosamund Young said:
‘When my book was first published I was delighted to receive letters from farm workers and herdsmen who had loved the cows in their charge but who never felt free to admit or show it openly. Today there is a powerful upsurge in concern about the source of our food, I hope that with the reissue of The Secret Life of Cows many more readers will learn to understand that the amount of loving care given to all food animals directly affects the health-giving properties of the end product.’
Rosamund Young farms 390 acres organically in the North Cotswolds with her brother Richard, producing beef and lamb from 100% grass-fed animals which are butchered and sold in the farm shop.
