Graham Robb will talk about his new book – The Discovery of Britain: An Accidental History From 500 Million BC to the Next Election
From his unique two-wheel, pedal-powered perspective, The Discovery of Britain takes the reader on a deeply researched, highly witty and surprising journey around Britain from 500 million BC to the next election. Panoramic and personal, poignant and shocking, seriously funny and full of fresh discoveries, it contains hundreds of people, places and events unknown to popular or to academic history. Familiar characters and catastrophes of British history also appear, but in a pristine and unfamiliar light.
Graham Robb was born in Manchester in 1958 and is a former fellow of Exeter College, Oxford. He has published widely on French literature and history. His book The Discovery of France won both the Duff Cooper and Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prizes. For Parisians the City of Paris awarded him the Grande Médaille de la Ville de Paris.
